Ralph Stevenson Algernon Wigram (1890-1936) was a British diplomat and intelligence officer. He served as a British Foreign Office official and was involved in intelligence work during World War II.
Wigram played an important role in assisting Winston Churchill in gathering intelligence about German rearmament and military intentions in the 1930s. He had contacts within the German military who provided him with valuable information about Hitler's plans for war.
Wigram's warnings about the threat posed by Nazi Germany were often ignored by his superiors, who were reluctant to confront Hitler. However, his intelligence reports were highly valued by Churchill, who used them to inform his own military and political decisions.
Despite his efforts, Wigram's career suffered setbacks and he was eventually marginalized within the diplomatic and intelligence community. He died in 1936, before the outbreak of World War II, but his contributions to British intelligence gathering and his early warnings about the Nazi threat were later recognized as being crucial in shaping British policy towards Germany.
